THUNDER BAY -- A resident of a Lincoln Street apartment complex was taken to hospital for treatment after a fire broke out on the second floor of McIvor Court.

In a release issued on Wednesday evening, Thunder Bay fire rescue said the call came in at about 2 p.m. and upon arrival the first unit on scene confirmed their was a working fire in a second-floor apartment, with smoke pouring out of a window.

Upon entry to the unit, fire crews reported heavy black smoke and a fire in the bedroom area. The fire was quickly knocked down and the resident was located and treated by Superior North EMS paramedics before being taken to hospital for further evaluation.

No other occupants of the six-storey building were displaced because of the fire.

The Ontario Fire Marshall has been notified and will take over the investigation on Thursday in an attempt to discover the cause of the fire.

Police are currently holding the scene.

Eight pumpers, two aerial ladders and fire command were called to the scene.

Earlier this year a 40-year-old was charged with arson when another fire broke out in the apartment complex.
