THUNDER BAY Magnus Theatre stagehands are now represented by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees.

As the result of a recent vote supervised by the Ontario Labour Relations Board, IATSE Local 467 will speak for seven members of the theatre's technical production staff during negotiations for their first collective agreement.

The union already represents backstage workers at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium.

In anticipation of the outcome of the vote, Magnus executive director Alexis Rowlinson said earlier this month that the theatre is "committed to establishing a fair agreement to promote professional theatre in the region and support arts workers."

Magnus is the only professional theatre company in Northwestern Ontario.

Founded in 1971, it produces seven professional mainstage productions each season.

IATSE noted that through its artistic, touring and theatre education programs, Magnus reaches over 40,000 adults, students and seniors in the region every year.
