THUNDER BAY — A long, cold and wet spring is delaying the opening of the city's bike lanes.
In a release on Tuesday, the city announced that the opening of bike lanes across Thunder Bay will be delayed due to ongoing street sweeping operations.
Originally, bike lanes were set to open on May 1.
The city did not provide a new timeline. The release stated that an update will be provided when the bike lanes are clear and open for use.
Once the sweeping has finished and the bike lanes are opened, on-street parking restrictions affecting designated bike lanes will be enforced.
As the weather warms, more riders are taking to the roads, and motorists are reminded to be aware and mindful of riders, sharing the road by slowing down and moving over for cyclists.
