OPP issues reminder to drive according to road, weather conditions

OPP in the Rainy River district responded to 17 motor vehicle crashes during the weekend leading into Remembrance Day.

OPP in the Rainy River district responded to 17 motor vehicle crashes during the weekend leading into Remembrance Day.

This has led the provincial police force to issue a reminder to drivers to adjust their driving habits to the conditions of the area’s roadways. Police say several of the collisions officers responded to involved drivers travelling too fast on snow-covered roads.

In one such incident, police responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash on Highway 11 just east of Ottertail Landing. When officers arrived they found that the drivers of the two vehicles had lost control and collided with a rock cut.

No injuries were reported as a result of that crash, but police say the roads were reported as”treacherous with very icy roads and poor visibility” at the time of the crash.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Nov. 11, police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 11 near Cousineau Road in Halkirk Township. There, investigators learned that a driver had lost control of his vehicle and struck a rock cut, which resulted in minor injuries.
