SHUNIAH — A commercial motor vehicle blitz was conducted by local OPP over the weekend.
Partnering up, the OPP and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) conducted a three-day highway safety blitz.
Both Thunder Bay and Armstrong officers and the MTO were enforcing road safety at the new inspection station in Shuniah by pulling over 350 commercial vehicles.
They checked 201 level-one commercial vehicle safety alliance inspections.
Of those, 130 vehicles were taken off the road for various violations, including equipment violations and over-extending hours of service.
The OPP reported that 216 drivers received offence notices under the Highway Traffic Act.
A total of 16 passengers also received charges.
