OPP probes sudden death of Cat Lake man

A Cat Lake man died after being arrested Thursday, and officers with the OPP are now investigating.

Officials with the criminal investigation branch of the OPP say officers are investigating the sudden death of Romeo Gerald Wesley, 34, of Cat lake First Nation.

Police say Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service officers responded to a report of a disturbance at the community’s nursing station. When officers arrived, a man who was described as agitated confronted them.

Two officers took the man into custody.

Shortly after being taken into custody, police say the man went into medical distress. Medical assistance was provided to the man, however, he died a short time later.

A post-mortem examination is expected to take place in Toronto Monday.
