THUNDER BAY — The owner of a dog involved in an incident that sent a six-year-old to hospital with lacerations to her head has been ticketed for failing to license a dog.

The City of Thunder Bay's Municipal Enforcement Services has also applied for a court order requiring either greater control of the animal or for its destruction.

On Aug. 6, Willow Royer was attacked by a dog after she approached a woman walking it in the neighbourhood and asked if she could pet the animal.

According to the child's father, the dog latched onto her head, and its teeth narrowly missed her eye as it clamped down.

The woman managed to dislodge the animal, and video appeared to show her admonishing it as she left the scene.

A spokesperson for the city said that following its investigation Municipal Enforcement Services issued a Provincial Offences Act ticket to the owner.

The ticket carries a $195 fine.

A hearing has also been requested under the Dog Owners Liability Act, with a court date scheduled for later this month.
