THUNDER BAY — Curling has resumed at the Port Arthur Curling Club after a structural problem halted action on the ice last week.
A support has been installed to reinforce a structural beam that shifted on sheet number eight near the east wall of the Egan Street facility.
That sheet will stay closed until permanent repairs are completed, but curling is permitted on the seven other sheets.
PACC manager Don Lammi says an engineer did an inspection and recommended a method to shore up the beam that has shifted.
"Everything else is secure. Now we just have to wait to see what the complete repair will be. In the meantime they've given us the go-ahead to restart the season," Lammi told Tbnewswatch on Wednesday.
He said the cost of the repairs won't be known until experts present some options.
According to Lammi, the temporary cancellation of play has had a minimal impact on the curling season, which is scheduled to finish at the end of April.
The restaurant and bar in the PACC remained open while curling was on hold.
