Pair facing drug trafficking charges

They are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on Oct. 15.

THUNDER BAY -- Two individuals are facing drug trafficking charges and the seizure of more than $100,000 in Canadian currency, as well as quantities of suspected cocaine and suspected fentanyl.

On Sept. 4, a search warrant was executed in Thunder Bay by the Ontario Provincial Police -led Provincial Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team (PGNG), comprised of members of 20 police services, including Thunder Bay Police Service and Nishnawbe Aski Police Service.

The TBPS Emergency Tactical Unit assisted in coordinating the search warrant.

Police seized approximately 18 grams of suspected fentanyl, approximately 114 grams of suspected cocaine, more than $100,000 Canadian currency and approximately $600 United States currency.

A 26-year-old from Chateauguay, Que., has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, trafficking cocaine and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

A 25-year-old from Thunder Bay has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, trafficking cocaine and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The accused were remanded into custody and later released.

They are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on Oct.15.
