SUNRISE, FLA. -- Thunder Bay's Jamie Kompon joined some pretty elite company on Monday night.

The Nipigon-born Kompon, an assistant coach with the Florida Panthers, became just the second coach in NHL history to win a Stanley Cup with three different teams, joining legendary coach Scotty Bowman in the exclusive bench boss club.

Kompon was an assistant with Cup-winning teams in Los Angeles in 2012 and Chicago in 2013.

The Panthers, in danger of becoming just the second team to lose a best-of-seven Stanley Cup final after taking a 3-0 series lead, edged the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 in Game 7 to capture the first Stanley Cup in franchise history.

Bowman won a record nine Stanley Cup championships, including five with Montreal, one with Pittsburgh and three with Detroit. He took his teams to a record 13 Stanley Cup finals.

Sam Reinhart scored the game-winning goal at 15:11 of the second period.
