THUNDER BAY – Pearl Mist arrived at Pool 6 on Thursday at 6 a.m.
The cruise ship came from Toronto. The ship’s captain planned to leave the city at 6 p.m. heading for Duluth.
Paul Pepe, manager of Tourism Thunder Bay with the Community Economic Development Commission, said this was the ship’s inaugural visit to the city.
“This is their first of two stops in Thunder Bay. They'll be here again in a couple of days and they're already selling their cruises for next year so we’ll see them back in 2025,” he said.
It’s the fourth visit Thunder Bay has received from cruise ships this year. The first three ships to visit the city were Viking Octantis twice and Viking Polaris once.
Pearl Mist will return on June 30 and Octantis will be back a few more times this summer along with several other ships.
“Pearl . . . has been in the Great Lakes for about 10 years in the lower lakes. This is their first year in Superior. We really want to welcome them here to the area.”
Pepe said Thunder Bay is “a growing destination for the cruising market" which "offers something very unique that cruisers can’t get in other markets as well.”
