A driver did everything he was supposed to do and will likely not be charged after hitting a pedestrian early Wednesday morning police say.
The 30-year-old driver was northbound on the 300 block of North May Street when he struck a pedestrian walking from the west side of the street. The 28-year-old man was struck when he crossed mid-block, not at an intersection. Traffic Sgt. Glenn Porter said the driver stopped and offered the man assistance. The pedestrian was taken to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with head injuries.
"It’s still under investigation but we’re not anticipating any charges (to the driver)," Porter said. "The pedestrian was sent to the hospital with some rather serious head injuries."
Police are asking any witnesses to come forward. Porter reminds the public that it is the law to cross at intersections.
