THUNDER BAY — One individual was taken to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation after a fire Monday morning at a southside Thunder Bay residence.
A passerby called 911 just after 6 a.m. after spotting flames and smoke coming from the second storey of a residence on Ford Street South.
The two occupants made it out of the house before firefighters arrived.
Fire crews applied water to the exterior before entering the house to search for other possible occupants, and to extinguish the remainder of the fire.
There was no one else in the building.
In a press release about the incident, the fire department reminded all city residents to ensure their smoke detectors are in working order, and to never smoke in bed.
But a spokesperson was unable to confirm the cause of the fire, saying it was still under investigation.
