Police on Saturday arrested a Peterborough man in connection with the ongoing investigation of a May 3 attempted homicide.
The initial investigation began Sunday, May 3 when officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were dispatched to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre where a man had crashed a vehicle into a barricade on the hospital’s property.
The male was seriously injured and the investigation determined the injuries had been sustained prior to his arrival at the hospital. Further investigation by members of the TBPS’s Major Crimes Unit revealed the injuries were a result of a shooting.
On Monday, May 4, a 32-year-old Thunder Bay man was identified as a suspect. On that date police arrested Terry Allen PELTO, of Thunder Bay, and charged with him Attempted Murder, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, and Possession of a Firearm/ Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 3.
On Monday, May 11, three other individuals linked to the investigation were located and arrested.
Among those arrested on May 11 was Jacob Daniel WATTIE, 24, of Thunder Bay, who was charged with Attempted Murder, various firearms-related offences and Breach of Probation.
Despite these arrests, members of the Major Crimes Unit continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the May 3 shooting. Another suspect – a 26-year-old Peterborough man – was identified as a result of those investigative efforts.
A warrant issued for his arrest was executed shortly after 4 p.m. at a residential address in the 200 block of Sequoia Drive on Saturday, June 13.
Police entered the home, located and arrested the suspect. Police also located a loaded handgun.
Members of the TBPS’s Emergency Task Unit, Break and Enter And Robbery (BEAR) Unit, Uniform Patrol, Major Crimes Unit, and K-9 Unit were involved in the execution of this warrant.
Police also located a Peterborough woman, who was wanted on outstanding charges by the Thunder Bay Police Service, inside the Sequoia Drive home. She is also wanted by various other police agencies.
She was arrested at the scene and found to be in possession of Fentanyl.
Brandon Wayne KELLY, 26, of Peterborough, Ont., is charged with:
• Attempt Murder
• Possession of a Firearm/ Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 6
• Careless Storage of a Firearm
• Possession of Firearm Knowledge its Possession is Unauthorized
• Breach of Probation x 2
• Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
• Prohibited or Restricted Firearm: with Ammunition
He appeared in bail court on Sunday, June 14 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date of June 17.
Sage Bryanna BARTMAN, 24, of Peterborough, Ont., is charged with:
• Assault with a Weapon
• Possession of Fentanyl
• Breach of Probation x 2
• Failure to Comply with a Judicial Release x 2
• Failing to Comply with Recognizance
She appeared in bail court on Sunday, June 14 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date of June 16.
