THUNDER BAY – Approximately 120 people participated in the pickleball tournament held at Boulevard Lake from July 12 to 14.
“It was very well attended with spectators all weekend who watched some of the top pickleballers in the region compete,” said Jason Horychuk, head coach of the Thunder Bay Pickleball Club.
Horychuk said there were visitors and players from all over Northwestern Ontario, including Geraldton, Longlac, Sioux Lookout, and Red Rock.
"Temps reached plus 38. It was the hottest tournament in town ever,” he said, adding that he was thankful to have avoided the downpour from Saturday night.
Horychuk won his third straight men's advanced doubles title.
Florina Nisioiu won her third straight mixed advanced doubles title.
Horychuk said next up is the "Meet in the Middle" tournament in Grand Marais in mid-August.
