A group of Thunder Bay high school students took a colourful stand against homophobia and bullying Wednesday, proving that there is power in pink.

Superior Collegiate students, along with Coun. Rebecca Johnson dressed in their brightest shades to celebrate the national Day of Pink. The campaign is aimed at confronting stereotypes and supporting diversity in schools.

Together, the group is hoping to create a positive environment for students of all sexual orientations and backgrounds. This is the third annual celebration in Thunder Bay. Last week, participants attended workshops for building supportive communities and today held a pink jewellery sale.

The awareness campaign originated in Nova Scotia in 2007, after a male student was bullied for wearing pink to school. Since then, schools across the country have started celebrating the event.
