Police appeal for return of stolen powwow regalia

Traditional items were stolen from a vehicle on McKellar Street south on Aug. 24

THUNDER BAY — Police have reissued an appeal for the return of powwow regalia that was stolen from a vehicle in Thunder Bay in August.

The theft occurred in the 200 block of McKellar Street South, where a vehicle was broken into in the early morning of Aug. 24.

The stolen items included a small black suitcase containing several pieces of regalia described as follows:

• Beaded red, green and black flower necklace
• Two beaded heart hair ties with ribbons
• White ribbon skirt with black and brown ribbons
• Black shawl with green ribbons and strawberry design
• Dress with black lace
• White beaded head piece
• Black wraparound moccasins

In a news release on Wednesday, the Thunder Bay Police Service said it continues to hope these traditional items will be returned to their rightful owner.

Anyone in possession of any of the articles can drop them off at the police station on Balmoral Street.
