Police arrest attempted murder suspect

The accused appeared in court on Sunday and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay police report that they have arrested a suspected person for attempted murder in relation to an incident that happened in the city's south side last July.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers were originally dispatched to the 200 block area of Cumming Street on July 12 following reports of an injured male and a possible shooting incident.

Paramedics with Superior North EMS also attended the call and transported the injured male to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further evaluation and treatment of those injuries.

As a result of the continued investigation into the incident by police, a suspect was successfully identified

Police report that, on Saturday, officers with the Emergency Task Unit, Break and Enter, Armed Robbery Unit, and Major Crimes Unit located and arrested the suspect at an address in the 100 block of May Street North.

Yusuf Bashir Yusuf, 22, of Toronto, was charged with multiple charges including Attempt to Commit Murder with Firearm, Pointing a Firearm, Carrying Concealed Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – Restricted, Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition, Tampering with Serial Number.

Yusuf appeared in court on Sunday and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
