THUNDER BAY — Police seized a replica firearm Thursday during the arrest of a Thunder Bay man who was wanted on charges stemming from an alleged theft in May.
Officers with the police service's Break and Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit observed a male they suspected to be wanted on outstanding warrants in the 200 block of Cumming Street just before 11 a.m. on Thursday.
Police arrested the 41-year-old man around 12:20 p.m. after confirming his identity, the force reported.
During the arrest, officers located and seized a replica firearm the suspect had concealed and in his possession.
The warrants related to charges of theft and fraud stemming from a May 22 incident in which items were allegedly stolen from a vehicle in a fast-food parking lot in the 200 block of Arthur Street West.
Police say a debit card stolen from the vehicle was used for various purchases at a nearby gas bar and a convenience store, and that the suspect’s identity was confirmed in June through an investigation.
The man now faces charges including carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, theft under $5,000, fraud under $5,000, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and two counts of failure to comply with a release order.
He appeared in bail court in Thunder Bay on Friday and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
