Police charged a 27-year-old Mississauga man with possession and trafficking marijuana.
Thunder Bay Police Service K-9 unit assisted in an investigation at the Greyhound bus terminal on Fort William Road on Friday around 8 p.m. Thunder, the 6-year-old-German Sheppard, alerted officers to a pair luggage. Thunder acted aggressively towards the bags by biting and scratching at them. Police say they found 29 pounds of marijuana estimated worth at $120,000.
Const. Joe Prevett of the K-9 unit said police were at the bus terminal to gather evidence for another investigation and just stumbled upon the suitcases containing marijuana.
"When (the accused) saw the dog there (he) got quite nervous," Prevett said. "As soon as we called his name, he pretty much gave up to us right then."
The man charged is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday.
