Police help save the life of a suspected overdose victim

THUNDER BAY — A Thunder Bay Police officer jumped into action to perform life-saving measures on a motorist suspected of suffering from a drug overdose.

The incident happened shortly after 5 am Wednesday on Waterloo Street at Brunswick Avenue.

According to the Thunder Bay Police Service, a pair of officers was dispatched to the location to investigate a reported motor vehicle collision.

They arrived to find that a vehicle had collided with a parked vehicle, and that the driver was unresponsive and slumped over the steering wheel.

One of the officers quickly removed the man and successfully performed life-saving measures.

He was then taken to hospital by paramedics.

Police later found paraphernalia inside the vehicle that's consistent with drug use.

A 30-year-old city resident was subsequently released from custody with a future court date for a charge of impaired operation of a vehicle.
