THUNDER BAY — A 24-year-old faces an aggravated assault charge after an incident on the city's south side that sent a man to hospital with injuries believed to be life threatening.

Thunder Bay police responded to a residential address in the 200 block of Robertson Street on Wednesday morning after receiving reports of an injured male,  police said in a news release issued later in the day.

The responding officers found a man, who was being treated by paramedics, who appeared to be the victim of a recent serious assault. The man was taken to hospital. While the extent of injuries is unknown, they are believed to be life threatening, police said.

The ensuing investigation led to a suspect being identified, found and arrested.

Randy Andrews, a 24-year-old from Thunder Bay, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. Andrews appeared in bail court late Wednesday afternoon and remains in custody with a future appearance date scheduled.

The charges have yet to be tested in court.
