THUNDER BAY — Once again, the Thunder Bay Police Service is cautioning local residents about fraudulent fundraising being conducted through telephone calls.

The TBPS said people are receiving calls requesting donations for a teddy bear campaign ostensibly being run by the Thunder Bay Police Association.

It also noted similar calls have been made recently requesting donations for fire prevention activities.

"These are scam calls," an advisory issued on Wednesday stated. "Anyone receiving these kinds of calls should disregard them and not respond. Do not provide any form of payment."

The TBPS economic crime unit also urged family members and friends to speak with vulnerable individuals so they don't become victims of the fraudsters.

A fraud/cyber crime complaint may be submitted to Thunder Bay Police online.
