FORT FRANCES — A resident of Fort Frances faces multiple charges after an incident that police describe as a violent assault against the intimate partner of the accused person.

Officers responded around noon on Sunday to a 911 call from a concerned citizen, whose intervention OPP say prevented the continuation of the assault.

The female victim was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The individual who was arrested was charged with assault causing bodily harm and six counts of failure to comply with a probation order.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing that was scheduled for Monday.

In order to protect the identity of the victim, OPP are withholding the identity of the accused.

None of the charges have been tested in court.

In a statement, police advised any member of the public experiencing intimate partner violence, or who knows someone experiencing it,  to contact their local Ontario Victim Services branch to develop a safety plan.
