THUNDER BAY — An area resident faces a charge of impaired driving after police found her asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle.
The incident happened Sunday while OPP were searching for a vehicle reported stolen from a local dining establishment.
Officers located the vehicle in the parking lot of the same restaurant, and determined it had not been stolen.
But they also discovered a 56-year-old woman sleeping.
She was tested for alcohol and subsequently charged with operating a vehicle while impaired.
Under the Criminal Code, the definition of operation of a vehicle includes "to have care or control," and the courts only require proof that a person could have driven while impaired.
OPP did not release the identity of the individual who was charged in this instance.
