THUNDER BAY — The actions of a city police officer saved a woman who had jumped or fallen from a bridge into the Neebing-McIntyre Floodway over the weekend.

Thunder Bay police said officers were called to the area of the 1100 block of Waterford Street on Sunday evening after receiving reports that a person had fallen from the bridge and into the waterway.

Responding officers were informed the woman was possibly under the influence of crystal methamphetamine and did not appear to be a strong swimmer.

Officers found the woman, who appeared to be struggling and briefly submerged into the water. An officer went into the water to bring her back onto shore, but police said she became combative and attempted to jump back in. She was eventually brought to paramedics.

Police said paramedics were able to provide her medical care and transport her to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further evaluation and treatment.
