The Thunder Bay Police Service is looking to identify the driver of a Ford F150 pickup truck that fled a traffic stop and dangerously drove through a construction zone Wednesday afternoon

THUNDER BAY — Police are looking to identify a motorist that fled a traffic stop and proceeded to drive dangerously through a construction zone.

According to a Thunder Bay Police Service media release, members of the Traffic Unit and the Ministry of Transportation were conducting enforcement on Dawson Road as part of a joint initiative.

At approximately 4:40 p.m., officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a motorist driving a Ford F150 pickup truck that was travelling 20 km/h over the posted speed limit while passing a police cruiser engaged in another traffic stop.

The motorist fled at a high rate of speed westbound on Dawson Road and entered a construction zone, driving through a line of pylons and then proceeding northbound on Hazelwood Drive.

Officers discontinued the pursuit due to public safety concerns.

Video from police cruisers and body-worn cameras are being reviewed by investigators. Anyone with information that could help identify the driver is encouraged to contact police.

Police are also encouraging the driver to speak with a lawyer and come forward to police.

Anyone with information that could assist in this investigation is encouraged to contact the Thunder Bay Police Service at 684-1200 or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, online at www.p3tips.com.
