THUNDER BAY — Police are reminding the public to exercise caution when using a debit or credit card to make a purchase.

In a release issued on Thursday, Thunder Bay Police say they are aware of scammers who will closely watch customers in an effort to obtain their personal identification number before stealing the card and using it to make their own transactions.

These scammers, known as shoulder surfers, often target seniors.

Police say they are urging family members of potentially vulnerable people to speak to them about the dangers of being targeted by this type of scam.
