Power outage impacts over 1,000 Hydro One customers in Thunder Bay area

Over 1,000 Hydro One customers in a broad area north of Thunder Bay were expected to be without power for several hours on Friday.

THUNDER BAY — Over 1,000 Hydro One customers north of Thunder Bay were without power on Friday in an outage expected to stretch hours into the evening.

According to the company’s online outage map, the outage affected a broad area north of the city that included Lappe, Gorham, and parts of the Highway 527 corridor.

The company estimated around 1,050 customers, representing households and businesses, were without power as of around 3:30 p.m.

Hydro One reported crews had been dispatched to address the issue, and had not yet publicly identified a cause of the outage.

It estimated power would be restored around 7 p.m.

The outage came as the area sat under a severe thunderstorm watch.
