THUNDER BAY -- Thunder Bay will be promoting from within to hire its next city clerk.

The city announced in a Thursday morning news release that Krista Power has been selected to serve as Thunder Bay's fifth city clerk, replacing current city clerk John Hannam when he retires later this year.

Power, who had been the deputy city clerk, has been with the City of Thunder Bay since 2010 after working for the provincial government's ministry of tourism for a decade. Power is a Lakehead University graduate and has a certificate in municipal administration with the Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers.

"Ms. Power brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this position," city manager Norm Gale said in a statement, describing the search and hiring process as extensive.

"She has a fantastic relationship with city council, and will continue to give them thoughtful and professional advice in her new role."

Hannam, who is set to retire at the end of July, has been in the post for 15 years after previously spending seven years as the deputy city clerk.

Power's hiring will be formalized when city council will be presented a bylaw in July and she is expected to assume the role on Aug. 2.
