THUNDER BAY — A judge will determine if there is enough evidence to proceed to trial for two men accused in the 2022 death of 30-year-old Cody Bulmer.
A preliminary hearing opened this week in a Thunder Bay courtroom for 37-year-old Daniel Blais and 45-year-old Josh Kakegamic.
Both Blais and Kakegamic were charged with second-degree murder in connection to the death of Bulmer on May 23, 2022.
Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service launched a sudden death investigation after Bulmer’s body was found inside a residence in the 1400 block of Balmoral Street.
The investigation revealed Bulmer’s death was the result of a homicide. Investigators said at the time that a firearm was not involved, but Bulmer died as a result of a violent incident and Blais and Kakegamic were named as two suspects in the investigation.
Kakegamic turned himself in to police on June 1, 2022 and Blais was taken into custody on June 9, 2022.
A preliminary hearing is part of the judicial process to determine if there is enough evidence to proceed to trial. There is a publication ban on all evidence presented during a preliminary hearing.
