THUNDER BAY — Ontario Premier Doug Ford says he will visit the forest firefighting base in Thunder Bay on Wednesday.
The government has been under pressure from the NDP and First Nations leaders to declare a state of emergency because of the serious forest fire situation in Northwestern Ontario.
It has said such a declaration is not necessary because Ontario currently has adequate resources to deal with forest fires.
"We're throwing every single resource we have up there," Ford told reporters in Ottawa on Monday.
He also revealed "I'm heading up there Wednesday to the command centre in Thunder Bay. But anything they need, they're going to get. I will spare no expense."
Details of the premier's itinerary had not been released as of Tuesday morning.
There were 149 active fires in the Northwest as of Monday evening, including 43 that were not under control.
