PRO Kids launches a new fundraiser (2 Photos)

The Press Play campaign will support local families in need

THUNDER BAY — An organization that's helped children and youth participate in community activities for more than two decades is reaching out to the public for support to keep its services going during the COVID-19 pandemic.

PRO Kids has launched its Press Play campaign.

The campaign was kicked off with a $5,000 donation from White Pine Electric.

Company spokesperson Jordan Ball said, "Growing up with my family we were lucky to be able to play whatever sport we wanted... We are happy to give back and help kids that otherwise might not be able to have the opportunity to participate."

For the past 21 years, PRO Kids has made over 25,000 placements of children into sports, arts and music programs.

In a statement, PRO Kids noted that arenas, gyms, studios and pools have recently opened their doors to allow youth to enjoy new experiences and develop new skills.

"Not all families, however, can afford these activities, leaving many children and youth at risk of missing out on these benefits. PRO Kids wants to ensure all children have equal access to recreation at this critical time," the statement said.

PRO Kids Coordinator Laura Daniele added, "Recreation for kids has never been more important. It provides an emotional outlet during these stressful times and creates healthy physical activity."

Individuals and organizations are encouraged to contribute from Nov. 1 to Nov. 12 by donation at www.prokidsthunderbay.ca or by calling 625-2351.
