THUNDER BAY — The province continues to work with Infrastructure Ontario to manage the procurement and construction of the new Thunder Bay jail and hopes to release requests for proposals by this spring.
The proposed 325-bed facility would replace both the Thunder Bay district jail and the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre.
“We are in the process of finalizing the RFP,” a spokesperson with the ministry of the solicitor general said in an emailed statement on March 8.
The RFP is expected to be released by Spring 2021 either prior to the end of the fiscal year or shortly after in the first quarter of the fiscal year for 2021, the ministry said.
“Although the ministry has been working tirelessly to our correctional institutions as they respond to the impacts of the second wave of COVID-19, the new correctional facility in Thunder Bay remains a top priority,” the ministry said.
