TORONTO – Two companies have been pre-qualified and invited to bid on the proposed 325-bed Thunder Bay Correctional Complex project.

EllisDon Infrastructure Justice and Fengate PCL Progress Partners are listed on the Ontario Infrastructure site.

In a release issued on Thursday, the province says the two teams were selected “based on criteria identified in a request for qualifications process that began in March 2018. Selection criteria included design, construction and maintenance, as well as the financial capacity to deliver a project of this size and scope.”

The companies will now prepare proposals on how they will deliver the project.

From there, Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of the Solicitor General will evaluate their proposals, select a preferred bidder and negotiate a final contract.

The successful bidder is expected to be announced next spring.

The project was first announced by the previous Liberal government and later reconfirmed by the current Conservative government.

The new facility is a replacement for the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre and the Thunder Bay District Jail.
