THUNDER BAY – Raag-Rung Music Circle presented a total of $15,000 to the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, Lakehead University and Confederation College after a successful return of its 39th Annual Fundraising Evening of Fabulous Food and Marvelous Music which was held on September 16.
“Raag Rung is pleased to make its humble contributions of $ 15,000.00 to Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, Lakehead University and Confederation College ($ 5,000.00 to each) and extends sincere thanks to all supporters and donors.” the organization said in a release.
The annual fundraising event has been held since 1983 where it started with concerts held in a director’s basement.
This fundraising event has now become a show-case tradition in town and, through these events, Raag Rung says that they feel fortunate to be able give back to the community that has supported it for all this time.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Raag-Rung says it was not able to hold the event for the past two years, in keeping the safety of all patrons in mind, but now the event is back and has raised $15,000 with will be split evenly between the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, Lakehead University and Confederation College.
The TBSO uses the money to support its various education programs and the University and the College distribute scholarships to deserving students including the international and indigenous students.
The 39th Annual Fundraising Evening of Fabulous Food and Marvelous Music was a sold out event that featured internationally acclaimed artists Steve Oda on Sarod and Ravi Naimpally on Tabla.
