THUNDER BAY — Between 30 and 50 mm of rain could fall on the city Monday.

Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning for the Thunder Bay.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected throughout the day Monday and overnight.

Due to the reduced ability of frozen ground to absorb water, the warning suggest flooding is possible in low-lying areas.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads, according to the warning.

"Don't approach washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts," cautions Environments Canada. "Keep children and pets away from creeks and river banks.
