THUNDER BAY – The city is about to get very wet.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Thunder Bay, with heavy rainfall expected on Monday. Between 30 millimetres and 50 millimetres of rain could fall on the city.

The rain is expected to begin on Monday afternoon and last through the night.

Environment Canada said localized flooding is possible in low-lying areas, noting heavy downpours can lead to flash flooding.

Frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb the rainfall, the government service advises.
