THUNDER BAY -- A local grocer is about to expand its operations, and breathe new life into a vacant grocery store on the south side of the city.
Officials with Renco Foods confirmed today that they are buying the former Quality Market in Centennial Square, and will be re-opening it under the name Renco Family Foods.
Renco currently operates a store on South Court Street, and a company spokesperson says they're excited to be opening a second location in the downtown south core.
Quality Market operated the grocery at Centennial Square from 1988 until this past October, when it went out of business.
Renco officials say they've heard from a lot of people in the south core who have been hoping to see a grocery store come back to their neighbourhood.
So far, there's no firm timelines on when the new store will open.
