Repairs to utilities continue after Chippewa Road collision

A logging truck driver was charged with careless driving in connection with the incident.

THUNDER BAY — Repairs to damaged infrastructure continue following a collision last weekend on Chippewa Road.

A logging truck left the roadway and collided with a utility pole before entering the ditch and coming to rest against trees on Saturday morning.

The collision resulted in electrical wires and other cables being brought down along the roadway.

Police said the driver suffered minor injuries.

A 40-year-old Thunder Bay man has been charged with careless driving.

About 190 Synergy North customers temporarily lost service as a result of the collision.

Some Tbaytel services were still impacted as of Wednesday afternoon.

A spokesperson said restoration work by its crews can't begin until Synergy North finishes all required repairs and the collision scene is deemed safe to work in.

She said Tbaytel was waiting for an update from Synergy North so it could provide customers with an estimated restoration time.
