THUNDER BAY — “No one else was displaced by the fire but there were a lot of residents that were distraught over what happened,” said Kevin Anderson, acting division chief of fire prevention for Thunder Bay Fire Rescue.
One person was taken to hospital with major burns. There was no update on their condition as of Thursday morning.
“This isn’t the first time that a fire has happened in this building and hopefully the mental health supports are in place to help everyone out. No one wants to see anyone get injured in a fire,” said Anderson.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to a fire on the second floor of the six-floor apartment complex on Lincoln Street around 2 p.m.
The injured person was inside the affected unit.
Anderson said that there was a lot of smoke and heat damage inside the unit but it did not spread out into the rest of the building.
An investigation is officially underway to determine the cause of the fire at McIvor Court that resulted in one person being injured on Wednesday.
“The (Ontario) Fire Marshall have to go through their scientific process for each possible source of ignition,” Anderson said.
“Sometimes it’s easy and sometimes it’s not. The fire marshals are the experts at that.”
Anderson said that there should be an update on the investigation either later in the day on Thursday or on Friday.
