THUNDER BAY – Local restaurants and bars will face COVID-19 inspections to assess compliance with public health guidelines, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit has announced.

Public health inspectors will visit every food and drink establishment in Thunder Bay beginning the week of Nov. 16, the health unit said in a release issued Friday.

Inspectors will assess compliance with requirements such as screening employees, ensuring minimum physical distancing, mask wearing when required by staff and customers, sanitizing, providing hand sanitizer, and more.

TBDHU is taking a proactive approach with these compliance assessments to ensure operators are implementing practices to keep staff and customers safe,” the health unit stated.

“Strong adherence to these measures can significantly reduce any spread of the virus in these premises which will in turn contribute to reducing overall community spread.”

The visits will also be a chance for health inspectors to answer any questions operators may have, the health unit added.
