THUNDER BAY – A pair of skiers with Thunder Bay connections are headed to the Olympic Games.
Parry Sound, Ont.’s Graham Ritchie, a current member of the National Team Development Centre – Thunder Bay roster, and Ottawa’s Katherine Stewart-Jones, a former member of the team, were both on Thursday named to Canada’s Olympic cross country skiing squad.
Ritchie has a career best 17th-place finish on the World Cup circuit and earned his spot at last week’s Canadian Olympic Trials in Canmore, Alta.
Stewart-Jones competed under the NDTC-Thunder Bay banner from 2015 to 2019.
“The entire team is very proud of Graham's accomplishment, and I think Graham would be the first to say that it was the day-to-day training with his teammates and backing from NTDC's integrated support team that has helped him achieve this goal,” said NTDC coach Timo Puiras.
The Beijing Olympic cross-country skiing events take place from Feb. 5 to Feb. 20 at the Zhangjiakou Cross Country Centre.
