Rural schools closed, transportation cancelled due to pending storm

With up to 30 centimetres of snow in the forecast for Wednesday, Student Transportation Services and Lakehead Public Schools decided to act proactively.

THUNDER BAY -- Due to the pending snow storm expected to hit Thunder Bay on Wednesday, all rural public board schools are closed. 

Student Transportation Services of Thunder Bay also announced it is cancelling all rural transportation for the day. 

Affected schools include Crestview, Five Mile, Gorham & Ware, McKenzie, NorWesterview, Kakabeka Falls, Valley Central and Whitefish Valley schools. 

Lakehead Public Board schools are open in the city, as are all Thunder Bay Catholic, French Catholic and French Public schools. 

All wheelchair accessible vehicles are cancelled for the day. 

A winter storm warning in place by Environment Canada is calling for between 20 and 30 centimetres of snow to fall in Thunder Bay, starting on Wednesday morning.
