Sabra hummus products recalled across Canada

Sabra Canada is recalling certain Sabra brand hummus products from the marketplace due to possible Listeria contamination.

Sabra Canada Inc. has recalled a range of hummus products sold across Canada because of the possibility that they are contaminated with Listeria.

Food containing Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says symptoms can include vomiting,nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. In severe cases of illness, people may die.

The CFIA says infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, but an infection may also lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn, or even stillbirth.

If you believe you became sick from consuming a recalled product, the agency recommends that you contact your doctor, and either throw out the recalled product or return it to the store where it was purchased.

Hummus products involved in the recall come in a variety of flavours and sizes, and all have best-before dates up to and including Jan. 23, 2017.

In a news release announcing a recall in the U.S. and Canada, Virginia-based Sabra Dipping Co. said Listeria monocytogenes was identified at its manufacturing facility but not in tested finished product.
