Saints, Vikings to meet in junior football final

Two teams posted the top two records in the junior division.

THUNDER BAY -- The high school junior football final is set, but the St. Patrick Fighting Saints almost missed out.

The Saints needed a furious fourth quarter comeback to pull out a 32-31 win over the fourth-seeded Westgate Tigers, St. Patrick having entere the fourth quarter down 31-21.

Ethan Dewar booted a 40-yard field goal to cut the gap to 31-24, then threw a 65-yard touchdown pass with 3:05 to go in regulation. Noah Khanlarian converted the two-point try, giving the Tigers the lead. Khanlarian also had a six-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Koen Hurlbert had a seven-yard touchdown run and and 40-yard rushing score to keep the Tigers in contention.

The Saints will take on No.2 seed Hammarskjold in next Saturday's final at Fort William Stadium.

The Vikings rolled over St. Ignatius 24-7 on Thursday afternoon.

Henry Thorburg caught a 78-yard touchdown pass from Kolt Crocker an Merric Beauparlant caught one from 10 yards out, helping the Vikings edge the two-time defending champion Falcons.
