THUNDER BAY — With just two weeks left in the Salvation Army's Christmas Kettle campaign, volunteers are urgently needed.
The community has so far contributed $171,478 which is 57 per cent of the Salvation Army’s $300,000 objective and volunteers are in short supply.
There is a specific need for help at the LCBO and Canadian Tire stores at Thunder Centre but there are openings at all locations.
“The escalating costs are making it increasingly difficult for people with limited means to cover all their expenses. The support we receive from kettles means we will be able to make Christmas a happier time for them and we will be able to assist them through the year. Thank you to everyone for your caring gifts,” said Gary Ferguson, executive director for the Salvation Army Journey to Life Centre, in a news release.
There are kettles at Superstore, Intercity Shopping Centre, Grandview Mall, Walmart County Fair, Walmart Memorial Avenue, Walmart Arthur Street Marketplace, Vanderwees Garden Gallery, Canadian Tire at Thunder Centre and Arthur Street, and the LCBO stores at Arthur Street, Thunder Centre, and Dawson Road.
The money raised helps with Christmas needs, but also ensures the Salvation Army can meet the needs in the coming year.
“These funds ensure that emergency food assistance, shelter, supportive housing, and transitional housing are available, and programming continues to bring lasting change to those we serve," said Ferguson.
