TORONTO – Harold Santacruz had the night of his life, helping the Lakehead Thunderwolves sneak past a pesky York Lions team primed for an upset of their No. 10-ranked opponent.

The Spanish forward scored 35 points on Friday night, adding seven rebounds, as LU downed the Lions 81-75, pulling away in the fourth after the Lions battled back to tie the game 57-57 after 30 minutes.

Nathan Bilamu had 15 poitns and Kelian Coulibaly poured in a dozen to help power the Thunderwolves offence.

It was the third win in a row for the visitors, who improved to 13-2 and remained a game ahead of the streaking Brock Badgers, who have won nine in a row, in the OUA Central.

The Lions, led by Liam Rietschin’s 15-point effort, fell to 3-12.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night.
