Santacruz propels Wolves to brink of a top-two seed

One more win and LU will guarantee themselves no worse than the No. 2 seed heading into the playoffs.

LAKEHEAD  -- The Lakehead Thunderwolves are a win away from clinching the No. 2 playoff seed in OUA men’s basketball.

Harold Santacruz poured in 25 points on Friday night to lead the men's basketball team past the visiting Toronto Varsity Blues 82-69.

The win ups LU’s record to 16-3 on the season, two games clear of Brock in the OUA Central, with three games left on the 2024-25 regular-season slate. Lakehead needs to win one of their remaining three games to claim the No. 2 spot.

Nathan Bilamu had 21 and Adrian Nowak came off the bench to score 13 to help pace the Thunderwolves attack

Lakehead led 20-13 after one and 40-25 at the half Toronto (6-13) outscored Lakehead 24-19 in the third, but gave most of it back in the fourth.

Lakehead and Toronto will meet again on Saturday night at the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse.Game time is 8 p.m.
