THUNDER BAY — The new school year has begun with a chronic shortage of drivers continuing to challenge area school bus operators.

Student Transportation Services of Thunder Bay reported a number of bus cancellations on Tuesday.

The North 06, North 91, North 94, North 12, and South 20 morning and afternoon bus runs were all cancelled due to a lack of drivers.

The North 27 morning and afternoon run was scrubbed due to mechanical issues with the bus.

Parents and students can track the status of school buses daily, including cancellations and delays, online.

School bus operators across Ontario have struggled to hire a full complement of drivers and backup drivers for the past several years.
